Allan Fleming
Born May 7, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario, Alan Fleming would shape many of the early influences in Canadian graphic design. He attended the Western Technical Collegiate in 1943 to study commercial art. After his graduation, he would work as an illustrator for the T.Eaton Company, as a layout artist for the Art Associates Studio and as Art director for ad agency Aikin McCracken.
Fleming would move to England for two years to study letterforms and type under a multitude of different mentors.
Upon his return to Canada, Fleming began working as a freelance designer and became Head of Typography at the Ontario College of Art.
In 1960, Fleming would launch his most famous work. The new and current logo for the Canadian National Railways.
