Dear Rob Fleming,

I am writing to purpose that micro:bit’s be integrated into BC’s education system, Students in Canada should have a fundamental understanding of the technology around us.

BC’s tech industry currently employees more people than the oil and gas, mining, and forestry combined. This rapid growth has no end in sight, and we need to prepare the upcoming generations with the tools to succeed.

By distributing the micro:bit across BC we can stimulate interest, creativity, and innovation in young students.

Tesla recently live streamed the launch of their Semi Truck and Roadster 2.0, the event highlighted the future of the industry as electronic cars continue to evolve. The event’s speaker was none other than Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk.

Key takeaways from the event were the advances in Tesla’s autopilot, battery, and  charging technology. Tesla’s autopilot technology includes autonomous breaking and lane changing, and my personal favourite, the trucks convoy capabilities.

I personally enjoyed the aesthetics and design of the show and the overall event was entertaining and easy to follow. It is hard to look past Elon Musk’s poor presentation and speaking abilities which tends to takeaway from the overall excitement and feel of the event. However, it would not be appropriate if anyone other than the man himself presented the products.

Zen Maker Lab’s offers various tech programs and services for all demographics with a interest in technology. The three highlights at the lab were the capabilities 3D printing, the LED night light exercise, and the Micro:bit.

I was intrigued and fascinated by the variety and capabilities of 3D printing and interested to see the future that it holds. As i am relevantly inexperienced with electronics the LED (light emitting diode) exercise provided insight on how basic electronics function. Lastly, the most interesting part for me was the micro:bit exercise, learning the very basics of coding and interacting with the bit to do various functions was fascinating.
