Recruitment practices

The recruitment process takes a long process, and there are two common ways:

  • In-house recruitment
  • Outsource with third party agency

But either choosing internal method or outsourcing, there are few common steps:

Launching job vacancy ads

  • The job posting would be posted on various national job sites such as jobstreet and karir. But it is more credible to use the companies’ own websites. If the employers want to post job advertisements on the newspapers, they are required to “notify the MOM local office of the proposed advertisement at least three days before the advertisement’s proposed publication date”. The contents such as the number of employees required, the type of work concerned and the criteria of positions had to be notified (Fahrul, 2019).

Reviewing all the requirements

  • Gathering all resumes from the job seekers and filtering all information to find out the suitable applicants. Reviewing the criteria of the available positions, and contacting the most suitable applicants.

Selection practices

Firstly, most companies would do phone call interviews about basic questions. Then some selected candidates would attend written tests. After passing the tests, face-to-face interviews would be processed. At the final step, employers are allowed to do background checks and inquires, such as criminal records, medical history, credit check and immigration status(Fahrul, 2019).

After working for four hours, the employees should have at least 30 minutes break. Also, employers should provide employees enough time to process religious rites. Furthermore, each employee can have a one-day paid holiday after 23 working days, and paid holidays are a maximum of 12 days per year (Fahrul, 2019).

Minimum wage

There are three sectors to check out the minimum wage: the province, the regency, and the business sector. The country do not set up a national wage, so the unions play important roles. The wages can be different among regions and industries (International, 2019).

Religious holiday allowance

Since religious are playing significant roles in Indonesia, employers must pay employees a religious holiday allowance for one religious festival each year. The purpose of allowance is to support the employees’ costs incur celebrating their festivals. The amount of the allowance is influenced by the length of service (Cuming, 2016).
