The Bauhaus School of design transformed into a modern art movement with a unique and rule breaking approach to design and architecture. Bauhaus, or “house of building,” a name derived by inverting the German word Hausbau. Bauhaus School was known for being effective in communication and convey clear ideas though their designs. It was considered the most influential design school in the history of the design industry. Bauhaus combines design, functionality and form to create effective and clear layouts.

I personally love the modern and clean feel the Bauhaus style reflects. They used form and functionality which was monumental to the design industry. Essentially they changed how we look at communication design. Upon my research I learned that The Bauhaus admitted women, who rarely had opportunities to pursue an art education in Germany outside of the home, but they were often relegated to what were considered feminine arts, including weaving and ceramics.

FUTURA: TYPOGRAPHY

Paul Renner designed Futura in 1926. He derived the font from book design with the motive to communicate clearly. In 1962 Futura went on the market as the typeface of their time. He labelled it as an “eminent German typeface”

The early stages of futura were very geometrical with a lot of sharp edges. Renner thought Futura was very unique and different from other typefaces of that time. Type foundry bauer began selling it as the type of the future. Futura gained broad international distribution, being overlaid on pictures and being used in charts. It was the look of the future.

Futuras clean shape makes it a bold and modern typeface. The type is still very popular and is used today abundantly in design such as movie posters, headlines and logo designs and much much more. I believe Futura is a font that is timeless and i’ll travel well past its decade into the future.
