This assignment took me around 5-6 hours of actual production, and a lot more conceptual work. I had a ton of ideas for this poster, and because it was the first class for this kind of assignment, we were tasked with trying to find a balance with information and keeping it interesting as a poster. My approach was to take inspiration from conspiracy bulletin boards and the shows “Miami Vice” and “Scarface” The reason I wanted to use these combinations of ideas is that I wanted this to include a lot of my favourite parts of projects and add all of them into this project. It was an ambitious idea, but I believe the idea was crushed under all of it’s ideas, because I also decided to include all of the information in different crime related media. I think this idea isn’t bad, It just doesn’t serve the function of trying to convey  information. It can be hard to tell what is info and what isn’t. Ultimately the project crumbled under its own weight, because even if I did one idea really well, other bigger ideas would struggle to convey their function. Instead of this project conveying all of my best qualities, I kind of feel like It conveyed everything I need to learn and focus on sharpening for my future in design. There are a lot of ideas in this project, and a lot of them are very well done, but 9 good ideas don’t make a good project. You need to find a cohesion between those ideas in order to create a fluid and unique project.

When Judy gave me feedback, essentially changing the project to be all red white and black, I could envision a much better version of this assignment that unfortunately may never be. That being said, the ideas that I had that did succeed were really cool, visually distinct and had a very unique voice, which is something that many struggle to find. I think as individual posters, they all really rock. I just really think this either needed more time in the oven, or needed to have an organized hierarchy of priorities for design. It’s a unique idea that didn’t meet expectations, and that’s fine.

I’d give it a strong 6 to a light 7 out of ten. Not bad or lazy, just disorganized.
