Yearbook Spread

The concept for my yearbook spread went through many iterations as I went through my process. I ended up collaging different snapshots of my personality on one page, attempting to play on the idea of organized chaos. Every element in my piece had meaning hidden within it. The layout of the page was made to feel eclectic like the inside of my mind. Though my thought process can be messy, the dotted line represent how I make my way around the maze that is my brain.

Trying to fit my personality into one theme proved hard for me to do as well, this is another reason why I opted for the collage concept. I wanted to add small pieces that represent me and my interests through different art styles and mediums to show off my versatility.

I decided that I did not want to express information in a simple paragraph format or through bullet points. Personally, I believe it makes it fun to uncover all the facts I hid within the piece. For example, I included the five words about me as a nutrition label to acknowledge my alternate career as a dietician. Within the label I had included my height as well as my age. The barcode I illustrated contains my birth date as well as the place I was born as well. The idea behind this was to keep the viewer engaged and make them want to explore the artwork.

Overall, I spent around roughly 30 hours working on this yearbook spread. The time includes planning as well as executing the idea. I would grade my work at around an A or B level as a lot of thought went into this piece. Most of the criteria was incorporated in creative ways and I tried my best to keep the information fun to look at. Some marks would be lost due to the fact if this spread were to be in an actual yearbook some of the information would be covered up by the gutters of the book.
