Barbara Stauffacher is an American graphic designer and landscape architect known as the pioneer of Supergraphics which is an expressive and colourful style seen in buildings. Barbara’s major break in her career was when she moved to Switzerland in her mid-20’s to study at the Basel School of Design where she met Armin Hoffman. It was from him that she started using Helvetica as a major font in her design as it represented truth, integrity and design that was made for the people. Her most famous work includes the environmental supergraphics she created for Sea Ranch. This kickstarted her fame and everyone soon began copying the style. She also worked on the Ribbon of Light installation in Embarcadero Promenade in San Francisco. Overall, her incorporation of Swiss Design principles combined with colorful, massive and expressive supergraphics continue to make her designs standout and inspire many others.
