“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.”

Cars have been part of my life from I was born, even a few of my first words were car brands. I definitely pronounced them wrong though. I used to call Mercedes Benz, “CD-Penz” and BMW, “MmmW”. Mercedes is and always has been my favourite. I found out some cool things about Karl Benz and how the company grew to be successful. What made me happy was that Karl’s wife, Bertha Benz, was not your typical housewife, she was educated and believed in her husband. Most of all, to prove the greatness of the invention, she took a 100km journey to show how revolutionary it was. And to be a woman driving alone with her kids, was not common which showed women’s independence.

My choices were
▪️1885 Karl Benz built the first automobile with an internal combustion engine – revolutionized mobile transportation and with the help of his wife who contradicted gender norms.
▪️1903 Wright Brothers first gas motored plane – defied the law of gravity for a minute, made it possible to travel the world quicker than by boat.
▪️1908 First Model T Ford produced – First mass production car that was af-FORD-able.

It amazes me how the world has evolved and how design has been a part of it since the beginning. People can create beautiful things if they put their minds to it whether it be mechanical, textural, visual, audible, etc.
