Posterlad – Czech abstract poster designer

The designer Vratislav Pecka has produced a substantial body of work in abstract poster work. Their work creates complex relationships with the elements of design that, at first glance, may seem simple.
The piece titled Quartet shows black circles and pill-shaped ellipses arranged in white space. The dark shapes have the impression that they are raised off of the page. This trick of the eye exemplifies the Gestalt Principle of Figure and Ground by emphasizing the Dark shapes into the foreground. By adding a gradient element to some curvatures accentuates the depth. What makes this illusion so compelling is the placement of the gradient elements on both the outer and some inner curves. This effect gives the impression that the ellipse shapes are hollow.
