Cavallini’s “The Last Judgement”

Pierto Cavallini was born in Rome in 1259. This is about all we know about his early and personal life. He was most known for painting The Last Judgement for the church of Santa Cecelia in Trastevere, Rome. This fresco painting of the second coming of Christ is a good example of Roman naturalism. we begin to see him saying goodbye to the more traditional, flat looking Byzantine style, and using a softer more life like method instead. Cavallini was one of the first artists to explore a newer, classical style in favor of the older, flatter gothic style.

  1. Antonia,

Pretty good work here on Cavallini (just to get this out of the way his first name is spelled Pietro not Pierto). Anyhow you have good research but what I would like to see is some more personal insights and feelings about the work of the artist you choose. That is what I’m really looking for here. Why did the artist resonate with you? What in his different paintings really stood out? That sort of thing. So for next time let’s see more of this.

  2. Antonia,

I don’t see your blog post #2 anywhere. This is over a week late. Please get this in to me asap.
