Mood Board Revised
The three events I have chosen to research and write about despite their differences and similarities, exhibit the beginning of modern and abstract art and design. The research I found on each event really showed the evolution and influence they had on one another. Through their principals and identities, they could have all been the same movement. I find it surprising that they were so closely timed with only a few years a part each, but all started and founded in different countries and one even from a different continent. Events and discoveries were not globally known in mere seconds, days or weeks either unlike todays speed of sharing or knowledge. Nor were there easy ways of translation throughout the various languages. where you can read about anything happening in the world minutes after its happened. The founders and creators were all on a similar path to discovery.

Starting with my research for when “Jazz first appears in variety” in 1916. Jazz was brought to life in the city of New Orleans, Mississippi, combining different cultures and former music genres. What made jazz its real success, was from the bands and artists that were able to improvise the most successfully while preforming. This new sound of liveness and nonconcrete music soon intergraded its way into other types of art culture, resulting in the beginning of abstract painting in North America. On the other side of the globe was where the next event, “Theo Van Doesberg launches the De Stijl Movement”, in 1917 took my research. This form of artwork was very geometric and consisted of the three primary colours with black and white. Theo van Doesberg embraced the esthetics of abstract art and design. The De Stijl movement was designed to be a visual language for the modern era. Lastly, the next event that was researched was “German Bauhaus founded” in 1919. The Bauhaus being one of the most influential milestones in design culture strived for simplicity in geometric forms. The designs by students and faculty from the Bauhaus all were brought together from various art and design movements. This method of combining techniques resulted in seeing the best feature coming together into one to create not only something simple but extraordinary too.

Self Evaluation
8/10 – I am giving myself this mark as I do think I reach the description of the brief accordingly, but I think I could’ve added more creativity to go above and beyond.
