Week 6 @ Will Creative Inc

It’s crazy to think that my days here are almost up!

I wish things were otherwise and I’d get an invitation to stay on but alas I feel If it were to happen it would have gone down already. Some things just aren’t in the cards! Call me an asskisser if you like but I put together a little gift for Nick/Ute as a way to carve out a little space in their memories. After all, who knows when a referral could come my way! I am, also, very grateful for the hospitality they’ve shown me and I’ve always made sure to reciprocate towards people who’ve gone out of their way to help me out. I usually do this in the form of a meal kit that consists of a steak as big as your head, ALL the fixings for the best pan sauce around and some fine finishing salt (and of course instructions). It’s a little more personal and interactive than a bottle of wine!

Nothing says thank you like food!

As far as workload goes this week it was a little thinner. Doing some revisions for the Metro Vancouver project partly due to a few missed details as well as Nick popping into the slide deck and giving some feedback. Rory also went into the office to get the Pantone swatches, so recolouring everything took a bit. The treatment for this brand relies heavily on graphic shapes and they are also used as holding devices in all of the notional materials. So when we have to adjust the shapes for better harmony it meant redoing a million clipping masks and plugging them into all these different mockups as well. Last week I might have been frustrated but it’s been long enough that I’m zen mode all over this shit!

I’ve also been practicing my very basic After Effects skills In helping David out with the Will website (which looks like it may be finally seeing the light of day after 7 years of operation!). He had been making prototype videos to show off some of their web projects in photoshop but its capabilities are limited in creating that smooth easing between screens and smooth scrolling. This has been fun and given me a chance to check out some Will work that I hadn’t yet seen.

Video mockup I made for a campaign from Will!
Another video mockup I made, this site is quite complex with lots of parallax effects so luckily I found some software that helped me create a smooth and seamless screen capture instead of spending days in After Effects. Great website and new branding for Canada Games I’d say, Well done, Will!

Also pasted below is a cool, short commercial that Michael shot during the first few weeks I was there. I think I mentioned that I got to sit in on some colour It’s very interesting and quite well done (I certainly didn’t know this about copper?!)

Incoming practicum conclusion next week. Cheers!
