My Subject

My zine is about John Baskerville. I chose him as my subject for two reasons: one was that I find his style to be very elegant and legible. My second reason was that I figured there’d be a sufficient amount of information about him that I could use. He was a very interesting character and I enjoyed learning more about him.

The Process

I made my zine in the style of books from his time period. The front cover was done with color pencils and ink, and the inside spreads were done with the same mediums, as well as chalk. The chalk was the main component for making the pages look and feel more real. It adds a soft grainy feel when touched.

Self Grade

If I were to give myself a grade, I might go with a seven. The choice to make it look like an old book meant that I couldn’t add as much color as I would’ve liked. Though I enjoyed making the ink drawings a lot, and I think they look pleasing.
