Rosemarie Tissi was born in Thayngen, Switzerland in 1937. She attended a one-year program at the School of Applied Art in Zurich, in 1953. There, she studied and developed her skills in Swiss design.

Her first commission was a poster for her town’s autumn fair, in 1956. In 1957, she had her first official publication with New Grafik magazine. Soon after, he became an apprentice, and later a working partner for Siegfried Odermatt, another respected designer known for his bold style. Tissi and Odermatt opened up their own studio (O&T) in 1968, where they worked mostly independently on their own commissions.

Tissi has become well known for her style. She’s also known for having invented the typeface Sinaloa.

I was first introduced to Rosmeri Tissi last year, through our design class. I ended up doing a presentation on her, along with two more team members. Over those weeks that we worked on the presentation, I grew very fond of her work. When I saw her in the lecture for this class, it made me really happy.
