George Lois was born on June 26th, 1931, to immigrant parents from Greece. He was born and raised in New York and attended the High School of Music and Art. After high school, he decided to attend Pratt Institute, but only stayed there for a year before he decided to drop his studies to work for Reba Sochis. He held that job until he was conscripted to go fight in the Korean War.

After serving in the army, George Lois started working at the CBS promotion and advertising department. Then, he was hired by Doyle Dane Bernbach and went on to work multiple jobs after that one. He started his own agencies and became one of the pioneers in American advertising. His name is included in the Art Directors Hall of Fame, The One Club Hall of Fame, and the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame.

Aside from this, he’s written books and won awards for his work. Overall, he’s a very well-regarded and respected art director.
