Marian Bantjes was born in Canada, in 1963. She grew up in Saskatchewan but now works internationally from her home off the west coast on Bowen Island. In 1983, she started working with book publisher Hartley & Marks after dropping out of school. There, she started working with digital typesetting and design.

From 1994 to 2003, she co-founded and ran Digitopolis, a graphic design studio that mostly created print-based work. Her co-founder ended up buying out the studio. She kept working there for one more year before leaving Digitopolis.

Marian Bantjes has gained international success over the years for her skills in design, typography, writing, and illustration. She’s a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and has had several events where she talks about her work.

What I like most about Marian Bantje’s work is how diverse her body of work is. It almost seems like she’s implementing a different set of skills for every piece. She can do simplicity, maximalism, highly colored pieces, and greyscale.
