The second week into We The Collective and I am still meeting members of the team. This week was busier in terms of the workload but I had the opportunity to meet some people and a couple that work more with copywriting. I have never felt fully confident in writing so, I was keen to ask them their ways through writing and how they come up with clear messaging and storytelling. The advice that I was given was to always write with the audience as the focal point and to tell a story of one person whenever possible since that is one of the most impactful ways to grasp any audience. Humans will always care or react toward other humans, so give them a story that goes deep into a character and gets viewers attached.

Looking into my journey on how I got to where I am today, I am more curious about how I could tell my own story within my brand. What is the fine line? How many challenges does one need to share and does there need to be a certain amount of accomplishments to balance it out? So many things I still want to learn, and maybe that is only something I can figure out. When I have told parts of my story to people, I’ve had mixed feelings about it, but maybe that’s just me; I have always felt hesitant to tell people what my true and — even more so — my full story is. Should I be more open about it? Maybe that will generate awareness of myself from a self-marketing perspective. Maybe, maybe, maybe…

Anyway, enough about me, this blog is supposed to be about my practicum, but I do think that through this experience and meeting new people and their perspectives, it is imperative to look at how their experience can help guide how we as “babies” to the industry should go about it because if we can not only learn from our own mistakes but other’s previous mistakes too, we are more likely to succeed.
