Phase One: Research

Through this research process, I’ve learned a lot about what it means to consider the environment your brand is going to sit in and the importance of conceptual ideas. I feel like as an artist I often fall into the trap of wanting something to look nice over the thinking behind a project. In my head things can make sense for the brand but I find it hard to articulate my choices in accordance to the research. This also pertains to what I’ve learned about environment. Often I can visualize how cool a brand will look, but I don’t really consider how it will be perceived due to the environment.

Honestly, the hardest part about this has been my own self-doubt and desire to make amazing work to impress my mentor. I really don’t want to disappoint them. This week I feel like I may have fell a bit short because I didn’t come up with enough sketches for us to progress to the next stage, which certainly sets us back a bit. However, I’m ready to strap on my rocket boots and get to work! I’m excited by my mentor’s belief in me to produce good work.

I give myself an 8/10 for this phase. I did a lot of background research, like researching the symbolism of roosters, competitive analysis, and many edits to the creative brief, so I feel fairly confident in that area. It was just the actual ideation part that I feel I missed the mark.
