Phase 2: Ideating…

This is where it starts to get a little bit bumpy if I’m being honest. So picture this: excited Mikaela is feeling pumped about a great mentor and a cool project, goes to work on some ideas… but with a little lack of direction? Not in the sense that my mentor was unclear about anything (she’s fantastic), more in the sense that I went down the wrong rabbit hole. I think somewhere along the way I got caught up in seeing my mentor’s whole creative process for Will and tried a little too hard to implement it to my own work. I went straight into illustrator without much of a visual direction and soon found myself on the precipice of defeat.

So this past week or so I decided to do some back-tracking and did more moodboarding and sketching. This time my own way. I feel a lot better about everything and feel that I’m going in a solid direction now. It’s really rewarding seeing how it’s all starting to come together.

I’d give myself an 9/10 because I feel like I did a good job of problem solving. I figured out what I needed as a visual guide and was quick to implement it. I also worked fast to be able to get some extra feedback from my mentor via email.
