Indigenous peoples herbs and healing

Indigenous peoples have identified over 400 different species of plants across canada including lichens, fungi and algae, all with medicinal applications, these include but aren’t limited to, sage, dogwood, and juniper. I want to take this assignment as an opportunity to educate teens and young adults about the different benefits and properties both medicinal and non,  identified by indigenous peoples in local herb and plant species to create a better bond  and awareness  between man and nature. For instance two summers ago I was kayaking in tofino and our local guide told us about the amazing sunscreen-like properties certain seaweed has, this was so fascinating and has been something that has stuck with me since, and has made me appreciate the local  nature so much more.
