Into the third week of the practicum, I felt like I’m feeling a little mini-retrospective. I think this is because I’m at the end of a few things this week! In Rethink’s book, KG or Keep Going is what’s said to keep pursuing great creative work and that there’s a process to ensure a better result. I’ll speak to this on a smaller and larger scale of seeing things more complete and how rewarding experiencing the process is in all its ups, downs, lefts, rights, and sideways!

First week orientation and lots of thumbs! Lots of friendly faces to help us keep going!

On a big-time scale, I’d have to note is our grad show looming. Our build-up on social media has been showing our work and also group photos! It’s quite a good look back to reminisce and also remember how uncertain one could be at the beginning. We all put in the work, time in and time out…we kept going and I can say the process led us to a more comfortable place!

On a small-time scale, I’ve been lucky enough to jump into projects at various stages at Rethink. It’s nice to follow a project from beginning to end but with the time that we have for practicum and all the projects moving parts, you see things quicker!

This week one of the near-end projects I was tasked with was creating the last digital collateral and following the visual identity created. I got to try a few new layouts and got to better know how we handoff to the production side.

I’ve been finalizing all the new edits to the brand standards document I am the designer on. This week, I incorporated more edits the copywriter did. It was a project that I had to be quite organized on and it felt daunting at first jumping into an ongoing project. However, the more time I looked at the pages, content, and edits, I felt rewarded this week when I did the very last step of rearranging the table of contents and page numbers!

The brand-identity project that I could follow since its near-ish beginning, took a breather this week for client feedback. I’m super excited as we presented several examples. One of the concepts I ideated and digitized further, the client loved and is one of the two we will keep going on deeper!

The small gym at our condo! Since we’ve all been more at home, I’ve definitely kept this activity going!

All in all, in Rethink’s Keep Going, the creative process is a marathon and there are no shortcuts. It can happen at any step of their process to keep evolving ideas. It’s a fitting statement too when you’re almost a newly-minted designer reminiscing, as it still feels like 1st year was yesterday. Keep going is quite a reminder whenever you are feeling uncertain as I’m sure my cohorts felt in this marathon. So I’d cap this retrospect that I’m feeling this week and it’s has been on everyone’s pursuit and seeing a bunch of wonderful finish lines!
