From Goffman

“Society is organized on the principle that any individual who possesses certain social characteristics has a moral right to expect that others will value and treat him in a correspondingly appropriate way.”

This quote was written by Erving Goffman in what was my favourite reading of this course: Presentation of Self. I agree with Goffman’s statement here, reading his text made me understand this more thoroughly, and I think that it is not ideal despite this being our reality. We live in a society in which the treatment given to people is based on the impression they project to us—for example, their social status, their ideology, among others. Although we should respect and treat everyone equally, this does not happen, and unfortunately, we value mundane and banal things, which do not justify situations of disrespect, meanness or rejection.
