Lisa Yuskavage is a contemporary painter that is still alive in the present day (2018). She was born in Philadelphia in 1962 and studied at the Yale University School of Art, where she received her MFA in 1986. Yuskavage has since then exhibited and sold at many galleries, and her works often encompass a dual role, making for inquisitive meanings behind each painting.

Her paintings consist of surreal-like paintings of figures in the nude and are often influenced by popular culture. Taking techniques from the past and introducing them to subjects of the present, Yuskavage paints with different moods and tones. The paintings usually vary from harmonic compositions to dissonance and disorder; and her paintings usually involve uses of green, whether it be tints and tones or a green hue in general.

Yuskavage has reintroduced the figure into contemporary painting and while incorporating many different techniques from previous art movements, Yuskavage continues to make paintings that have the viewer question and contemplate about the piece before them.
