Yes, I made this image ^^

Welcome! My name is Alex Chen. I’m studying to become a illustrator, and I’ve been interested in art my entire life. I’m mostly interested in technology, science, and drawing however I am always keen on learning on new things. I didn’t think much about my future when it came to university, but I had a over-arching goal of working at one of my favourite companies as a illustrator in the future. I find influence from my parents, as they were Chinese immigrants coming to Canada with little or no money. The amount of hard work and time they invested into their life in Canada was a long and arduous process that ultimately led to my life now.

I got interested in Capilano University when I was looking for illustration programs, as there weren’t many programs I could find in Vancouver. I had another option like Emily Carr since I got my portfolio accepted on the spot during National Portfolio Day, but what ultimately led me here was the impressive illustrations from past graduates work. After seeing some graduates work, I delved in deeper as to what Cap U had to offer, and here I am today (lol).

I think learning is a life-long process and everyone always has room for improvement professionals or not. I dislike the thought of stagnation, as it feels like a fire has settled or been put out. Being a creative person, I dread the idea of having a flame of anything go out. So I’d like to feed my fire with inspiration and goals in life as I pursue my career, in hopes of landing that dream job.
