Lecture Summary

Oh boy what a time for Graphic Design. The Bauhaus School was founded in Weimar Germany, with Walter Gropius as it’s director. Gropius envisioned combining all art forms into one school. The students who would study in the Bauhaus design school would learn everything in the school and because they did everything in the school many great works came out of the Bauhaus school of Design. Of course the government thought they were a bunch of weirdos because some of the works from the left wing side of the Bauhaus school were making some pretty cool but weird stuff at the same time, so after some complications the original location was shut down and the school relocated in a industrial town called Dessau. Unfortunately the school didn’t last for long as the Nazi’s came in and shut it down (What a bunch of bumholes).

The time of Art Deco and Bauhaus was a huge jump in the world of design. Their research and studies proved to influence the design world today.

Today’s research is going to be about the KKK (Ku Klux Klansmen). The contents of this post will be talking about racism and acts of terror against coloured people; If you are uncomfortable about these topics then please stop reading here.

Here have a random meme.

Anyway’s lets get on with it

Research Notes: KKK

Looking at society now we can confidently say that the communities around us are all diverse and unique in their own prospects. The assimilation of cultures and unification of backgrounds has allowed humanity to bridge a gap that was supposedly unthinkable centuries back. Of course there are still groups of people in the world that don’t want to assimilate or haven’t caught up to the idea of diversity yet. It’s disheartening to hear that this still happens, but with good things there’s always bad things that come along with it too. Just like how there’s a bright and diverse community that desires peace in one place, in contrast to that there are dark and evil communities that thrive for destruction.

That’s what the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) was. They didn’t desire change and diversity, but a world where white would overrule everything.

The KKK was a group that consisted of White Supremacists, nationalists, and Advocates of Anti-Immigration. The concept of the group predates around the time the Civil War ended, where millions of black slaves were freed and slavery was abolished. Some people didn’t take this lightly, and revolted against change. It didn’t last long, as the group died out around the 1870’s.

The scariest part is that they didn’t die out because they were beat, but they had achieved their goal: Restoring White Supremacy around the South of America

The First Klan would often witch hunt black people and their supporters in night-time raids. The Clansmen would wear a white hood to scare superstitious black people and to also prevent identification from local officers. The second Klan would often burn a cross for religious symbolism; this act would be synonymized with the KKK.

The government issued the Ku Klux Act in 1871 which allowed the president to fight the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacy groups with military force. The act ultimately led to the down-bringing of many white supremacist groups.

There were 2 more instances of the Klan re surging, each with a violent history, and each stamped out like the first one. Some cases of racial attacks by the KKK were reported in the early 21st century, and only a few thousand people are currently in the Ku Klux Klan at the present day.

The KKK was a ruthless white supremacist group that would commit race crimes and terrorism against people of colour. While the KKK was ultimately stamped out by the government, it is still important to remember that racial attacks are still happening all over the world.

Burning of a cross

The purpose and ideals of the KKK is not inspired by someone nor was it the result of the Civil War, but it was simply a glass of hatred that had been slowly filling up to the point of overflowing.

Also, if you are interested there is a film based on a true story that portrays a black policeman infiltrating the KKK:
