April Greiman

April Greiman is a Post Modernist designer being identified as one of the first designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool and also collaborated with Jayme Odgers on spreading the “New Wave” style to America during the 70’s-80’s. The media often holds her as “The bridge between Modernism, Post Modernism, Analog, and Digital.”.

After studying at the Basel School of Design, she moved to Los Angeles where she established a multi-disciplinary approach called “Made in Space”. She wanted to prove to other designers that the International style wasn’t going to die, by incorporating pixelation and digitalization errors as parts of her digital design.

In 1982, Greiman became a head of design department at the California Institute of Arts. She also felt that the term “Graphic Design” was too limiting for future design, so she renamed the department name into “Visual Communications.”.
