Burton Kramer

Burton Kramer is a prominent graphic designer and artist that lives in Toronto, Ontario. Born in New York, he started to work for Will Burtin as the Assistant Art Director for “The Architectural Record” For Geigy Chemical and Pharmaceuticals in Ardsley, New York, and then as Art Director at Erwin Halpern advertising agency in Zurich, Switzerland.

He moved to Toronto in 1965 and has worked on many famous logos and works, such as a design for the CBC logo and creating the map/directory system for Expo 67.

He also founded Kramer Design Associates, and created identity programs for the Royal Ontario Museum and Ontario Educational Television.

His designs have been published in numerous books and journals world-wide. After his corporate work life, Kramer became a fine art painter, using abstract, geometry based, lyrical, colourist themes as a medium.

I think Burton Kramer is a amazing designer, as his designs are innovative and thoughtful. His works are very reminiscent of OP Art and he also introduced the International Style to Canada as well.
