The Rise of the Fast Fashion Crisis
With the rising age of social media, people are being heavily influenced by others on the items they purchase. A big industry that relies on having a social media presence is fashion. The more we see what other people are wearing, the more we aspire to achieve a similar aesthetic amongst our closets, in hopes of finding replicas in the process. These clothing companies that capitalize off of the trends and replicas are better known as the fast fashion industry. However over the past decade, fast fashion has been doing enormous harm to the ecosystems around us. This issue is not seen as a problem to most because people can only look at fast fashion in a positive light, as a way to achieve “their” ideal image with little impact on their bank accounts. Nevertheless, that does not exempt the fact that fast fashion has contributed an equivalent amount of pollution as oil and coal industries. For my research paper, I will explore the topic of fast fashion and the negative effects fast fashion has on different ecosystems around the world. As a consumer, it is my responsibility to know what is being done to the clothes I put on my body. Therefore I will be searching for scientific studies on the different types of fabrics and dyes fast fashion companies have been depending on to run their factories. By furthering my research on this topic, I hope to educate myself and others on how to be smarter consumers for the next time we shop from one of these brands.
