Marian Bantjes is an iconic Canadian designer known for her use of custom type, insane detail and unique objects. She began her career by studying art for a year in Saskatchewan, promptly dropping out and working as a book typesetter for Hartley & Marks. From there her career really took off as she began working for Digitopolis in Vancouver and began her own design firm.Since then, Bantjes has gone on to produce beautifully elaborate typographic pieces and calls herself a Graphic Artist.
Personally, Marian Bantjes was one of the first designers that made me interested in design. She helped me to see the fun parts of design and that it’s always worth it to take your time on a project to get it to look the way you want it to.
My favourite project of hers is the Valentine’s day cards that she makes yearly. I especially like the 2010 version in which she cuts them out of Christmas cards. Such a fun idea and definitely inspires me to try to come up with creative solutions that don’t necessarily make sense initially. But could end up being amazing visually!
