Wolfgang Weingart was born in Germany and became a typographic legend after studying at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart. Upon graduation, he began an internship with Ruwe Printing where he learned lots and was encouraged to study in Switzerland, where he also taught for a number of years.

Weingart is credited as “the father” of New Wave or Swiss Punk typography. Observing his work it is very clear to see why. Personally, I love how he’s taken the clean, simplistic look of Swiss design and made it complex. I think he has done it successfully as well, coming up with solutions that seem more visual even though typography dominates most of his designs.

Weingart is not afraid to try new techniques and experiment which is really inspiring! He is one of those designers that show that sometimes the most experimental solutions end up being unique and beautiful.
