Rick Griffin is my personal favourite designer during this era because of his unique sharpness and looseness in his designs and typography. He was born June 18th 1944 and was a leading designer in psychedelic posters. He really got into designing while attending Nathaniel Narbonne High. Here he produced “surfer drawings” which lead to his comic strip which also lead to promotion in a surfer magazine. His work was well known and regularly appeared in Zap Comix. He contributed designs to 7 of their issues. He also contributed to other companies such as, Snatch Comics, Jiz Comics, and Yellow Dog. He was also known as a designer for the Grateful Dead designing their best albums. Rick Griffin is a born christian, being this it influenced not only his day to day life but the kind of art he produced. During the 1970s he completed hundreds of painting as well as drawings for “The Gospel of John”.
