In this project, our group was assigned to create a project that has a theme of Canadian indigenous reconciliation. after Bracken’s presentation. Our group picked the Call to Action 68 out of three other options. The topic we agree on is to create an indigenous commemoration project on 150th Canada Day, we found it challenging to do and also fun at the same time. In the process of our research, we found that the information on indigenous people is limited. It was difficult to find relatively neutral ideas among the information that has some slight bias. Other than that, it was tough to read through quite a lot of historical documents, and also many times we found that the information was repeated. In the critics and feedback section, Bracken mentioned Anti-Canada Day protests and communities. For me, a foreigner to this Canada. It gave me a new perception of a national anniversary that should have been celebrated by the whole country as a whole. It also reminded me to think from a different perspective on things. When we settled on the medium, my group and I came up with a very large number of possibilities. From the clothing style of indigenous people to the design of relevant souvenirs, and even the staple food of the indigenous people in the past. Eventually, we chose poster ads as our final medium, and we wanted to use visuals to draw attention to it and urge reconciliation. In nailing down the poster content, we wanted to think outside the box and try to create this from a different perspective, using indigenous as the main character of the narratives. In terms of content, we have chosen three important historical events, which are the year of the first Aboriginal communities, the first discovery of Canada and the first fur trade. We had a long discussion on the year of the first Aboriginal communities. My group and I found two options, about 14,000years ago (Aboriginal people came to Canada) and 1143 (Iroquois confederacy was formed). To have the same method of calculation for the 150th anniversary, we chose the second option to maintain consistency. This is a meaningful project to our group, it makes us respect history more and also enhances the importance of equality.

Evaluating myself, I think I did fairly well on generating ideas and titles that are thought out from indigenious peoples’ perspectives, executing the poster with eye catching visuals, uniting the team and paying attention to progress. even though there were typos on “indigenous”. i will definitely be super careful about that in the future.
