Yayoi Kusama was born in 1929, in Japan. When she was little, Kusama’s mother didn’t want her to be an artist. Her mother would tear down her drawings and canvases, but she stayed determined. Even when she couldn’t afford art materials in her youth, she still made art with mud.

She eventually convinced her parents to let her go to art school, and in 1958, she moved to New York. Since then, she’s become one of the most popular artists in the world. Kusama has had many exhibitions and was a part of the pop art and minimalist movements. She is mostly known for her signature polka dots.

Like many of the other people in my blog posts, I decided to cover Yayoi Kusama because I knew about her prior to this class. Until this blog post, I mostly knew her as ‘the polka-dot-lady.’ It was nice to learn more things about the life of this very interesting artist. I personally really like her exhibition sets and would love to visit one someday.
