Practicum Week 5

This week was pretty nuts work wise! I got put on a super fun pride campaign which was great since it’s a cause I’m really passionate about and also something I’ve been wanting to work on for a while. This week was also my first time going on a shoot! It was so much fun and I learned a ton. But let’s start at the beginning of the week.

Unfortunately I got food poisoning on Sunday evening so I couldn’t work Monday, which ended up pushing all my projects and leading to a massive crunch time on Tuesday and Wednesday. This had me pretty overwhelmed (on Wednesday I had to skip lunch and had back to back meetings all afternoon until 4pm), so I was getting quite burnt out. One thing that’s so great about Rethink though is that they have traffic, which you can let know if you’re at capacity and they will try to help ease your workload in any way they can. I ended up getting support on one project and taken off another which eased my workload quite a bit. But that day was definitely rough.

Thursday was the best day though! Shoot day! We started at 8:30 and ended up going overtime to 7:00, which was tiring but also a really cool experience. It was a food photography shoot, in Elastic Studios. Not only Rethinkers, but also the clients were there too which was cool! It was amazing seeing pros do their work. There was a kitchen in the studio so the food could be prepared fresh, and also food stylists which I didn’t even know was a thing! I basically just shadowed the art director for the whole day, while also doing some work and taking a couple meetings in their meeting room upstairs.

I was so lucky to have gotten the chance to shadow the shoot and be there to witness the whole process from start to finish.

I also presented another client presentation at the end of the week and it went super well! This time I presented over half of the presentation myself to the Freedom Mobile team. It was so satisfying to see their reactions and get their positive feedback on the designs!
