Shedding Light On the Author
Tobin Eckstein, known as Tobin Elias in his artistic career, is a third-year student in the IDEA School of Design. He is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication in 2024. Tobin previously obtained a Certificate of Visual Arts from VISA in Victoria, BC in 2019. He has been involved in a number of creative projects since his childhood, including Art Bus, 2016, Trans Youth in Translation, 2018, and Slideroom Gallery, 2018. He has also taken on commissions for tattoo designs, fine artwork, and package design. Major inspirations in his artwork include video game concept design, creatures from folklore, and experiences in fighting for his identity and safety. The young artist lives in North Vancouver with his partner, Luke, who is studying geology, their two cats, Ash and Juniper, and their dog, Salix. Tobin looks forward to building a reputable career in design and illustration. His other passions lie in interacting with animals, baking, reading, and going on coffee and drawing dates with his friends and partner.
