During my fourth week with TRIUMF, I have completed the MeV 520 Cyclotron animation. It is based on a poster that I have redesigned and optimized for web use (making it horizontal format). Here is the final video below of how it turned out.

Cyclotron Animated Video

I moved forward with redesigning the MeV 520 Cyclotron page after the video has been complete. One final element is left to add, which is redesigning the “LARGE CYCLOTRON FACTS” section.

The image above is the current drop-down layout. Being inspired by other sections of the “Discover Our Lab” site (like the Time Tunnel animated infographic), my team and I came up with a more appealing design solution.

The plan is to have slider images consisting of 3 facts per slider that change in gradient as the user keeps reading. The gradient goes from dark blue to lighter blue TRIUMF brand colours, which complements the blue colour in the animated video.

The gradient is not the only thing that would change. The star elements in the earlier sliders would slowly transform into blueprint graphics. I was hoping to get this update finished by the end of this week, but unfortunately, my allergies have held me back on this plan. I will be finishing up my vision on the upcoming Monday.

It’s important not to beat oneself down for unexpected circumstances but to come back with more power and motivation instead. This week I would like to share an online tool that has helped me keep my work in check and plan my time wisely.

Trello has done a great job with my schedule planning during this practicum and even some class organization at the IDEA program. It is easy to use with groups of people to plan out tasks, keeping everyone on the same page.

TRIUMF’s Trello Tasks List

The image above might help you visualize what Trello looks like. It has numerous task cards that are assigned to different team members. It can even be colour coded!

The last highlight of today’s blog that I wanted to mention is that I am finally spreading my wings as a recent IDEA program graduate and an independent designer. My graduation was on March 25th, 2021. Visit ideagradshow.com to see more of my work, as well as what my classmates have been up to during our studies at Capilano University.

This is the end of my studies, but it’s just the beginning of new connections and friendships. Thanks for everyone’s support and I’ll be back with another blog post for you next week!
