I combined these phases because my mentor had a big family crisis and I couldn’t meet with him for 2 weeks. I knew he was dealing with a lot so I decided to use our short final meeting to show him the animations without much of a presentation so I could get the most feedback possible.

He gave me a bunch of great feedback on the animation specifically and we also talked about my goals and where I want to go from here. He told me to keep in touch so I plan to reach out to him again for feedback in the future.

This project has probably been one of my favourites. It was a real treat to get to work with someone I admire and to create a project in the realm I chose. Part of what made it so special was also getting to hear his insights into his career and the industry plus all of his wonderful advice. He was very encouraging and this has given me a lot more confidence moving forward. Sometimes he would be super busy but more often than not he would take the time to ask me a lot of questions to help provide as much guidance as possible. It felt like he really cared and I’m very grateful for that.

The project was challenging and I bit off way more than I could chew (I have spent 101 hours on the project to get it to this point, and it still needs finessing). I reached new levels of burnout, but despite that I think I have a strong foundation for a portfolio piece and I’m proud of the work I’ve done. I have a much better understanding of the workflow between Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects which is incredibly valuable, as well as what’s possible within a certain timeline.

I would give myself a 10/10. With the time that I had, and the project I was trying to create, I don’t think I could’ve done better. Yes there are still things that need to be refined but that isn’t unique to this project, that’s usually the case with projects we hand in. Overall I’m happy with where I landed and I think all of the hours I put in paid off.
