This week was again extremely busy. Most of the week I was pretty inundated in work, but it does feel really good seeing the progress on each of these projects. It’s really strange to think that I only have one more week left at Rethink because I feel like I’ve already learned and accomplished SO much in the short time I was here.

Because of grad show, I was only at work two days this week, as it was also a long weekend for Easter. It was honestly super stressful because all I could think about while preparing for the show and also while at the show was how much work I needed to do when I got back. However, it was so nice seeing all my classmates again!

This week was pretty nuts work wise! I got put on a super fun pride campaign which was great since it’s a cause I’m really passionate about and also something I’ve been wanting to work on for a while. This week was also my first time going on a shoot! It was so much fun and I learned a ton. But let’s start at the beginning of the week.

This week I did my first client presentation and it went amazing!! I was super nervous, but luckily was able to mostly read off the slides. To my surprise, the client ended up liking all my designs and everything the team put together, no changes needed! It was the best feeling.

I started the week with a light workload, so on Monday I made this lego creature during a traffic meeting and went around asking people what they thought it looked like. Everyone had completely different responses – it was so interesting! I thought it looked like a bird (specifically dodo) but people said horse, dinosaur, sheep, and dog!

This week I really started to feel like I was starting to finally find my place and get used to the working environment and flow! I was assigned a couple more projects and was able to do my first packaging project (so exciting)! LOT’S of sprints as Rethink is super busy at the moment, but all the work is super rewarding and fun.

The Fire Prevention Division of the NVFD works to prevent fires by doing routine inspections, investigations, constructions and educating people in the community. While the public education programs for elementary school kids and seniors have been effective in the past, the forms of communication they use to reach these demographics don’t work with the given target market of students aged 16 to 25. They have virtually no previous interactions with this age group and have no idea how to properly inform them on fire safety issues, which discourages the department from trying to reach out to them.

The erasure of Indigenous names began very early on in colonialism, with many Indigenous people losing important family heritage linked to their names, in addition to a loss of their sense of identity. There is a need for Indigenous folks to reclaim the names and heritage that were lost to the Canadian government – to embrace their traditional names and share their meaning and history with others.
