TRIUMF is Canada’s particle accelerator centre. Their vision is for Canada to lead in science, discovery, and innovation, improving lives and building a better world.

Since Covid-19 still requires quarantine and physical distancing, my practicum with TRIUMF started and will continue at my home office (aka my comfy room).

I wanted to complete my practicum with TRIUMF because I appreciate their values and can complement their very complex work with my design skills.

My goal is to help TRIUMF polish their “Discover Our Lab” site that they are creating for the general public to get aquatinted with them. Here is a small preview of the homepage so far:

TRIUMF’s “Discover Our Lab” homepage

The first week at work I was glad to finally meet the whole Team I’ll be working with as well as the other student that will be working closely with me throughout my stay at TRIUMF.

While I have been waiting for my access to be granted so that I can start editing the site, my supervisor Diana has provided me with more opportunities and mini-jobs I could do meanwhile.

I got the chance to help out Dr Reiner Kruecken with an illustration for the MVM project, which was a true feat. It represented Canada’s contribution to the international collaboration that is solving the ventilator shortage crisis globally. Physicists designed a new (more nimble and cheaper) to build ventilators.

I am excited to see where next week takes me with TRIUMF and I am looking forward to applying my skills for a real-life project that will be used and loved by many in the future.
