1990-2000 New Forms
Chris Ware (1967-), birth name Franklin Christenson, is an American graphic novelist and illustrator most known for his illustration covers for The New Yorker, comics Acme Novelty Library Series (1994) and Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth (2000). Chris Ware is often praised among many fellow illustrators for his abilities to build compelling stories and to illustrate interesting, colourful panels in his comic books.
At a first glance, Chris Ware’s works also reminded me of illustrator Adrian Tomine’s illustration for The New Yorker. Similar to Adrian Tomine, Chris Ware is great at depicting quiet, everyday-life scenes. Both of their styles tend to be meticulous and realistic. Chris Ware, in particular, seems to love illustrating structural buildings with solid outlines and detailed architectural elements.
