Onboarding: Day 1-2 🎯
- Before my day 1, Sabrina introduced me to my first day rundown and reminded me to include a few fun facts about myself as my self-introduction. Even though I wasn’t able to meet everyone face-to-face, I really felt the warm welcome via Slack! Aside from the intro, I was delighted to learn about how much this team values work/life balance and career growth.
- I mainly spent the first two days watching onboard videos, going through tools setup (mainly on Jira, Miro and Figma) as well as joining meet & greet zoom calls. Remembering names is one of my biggest weaknesses, but surprisingly I was doing pretty good with names in my first week.
Project Briefing: Day 3-4 ✍️
- The next 2 days are more meeting-heavy. I was paying close attention to the topics brought up during sprint kickoff, product team alignment, standup and roadmap brief meetings. After jotting down 14 pages of notes in my first week, I am happy to say that I learnt new tech/business-specific acronyms and project insights that will come in handy later on.
Things I learned 😎
- I’ve come to realize how quickly technological landscape changes. Businesses introduces new UX heuristics, KPIs and processes every so often, but the human-centred approach remains constant.
- Perfectionism can sometimes be an enemy. Working in an agile environment during a convergent stage requires the team to have Q&As and many dialogues. Instead of second guessing myself, I learnt to be confident about asking questions and to be absorb knowledge like a sponge.
Why did I apply?
- Other than learning about UX strategy and research, I was hoping to learn more about SEO (search engine optimization) and SaaS (Software as a Service) products. I am glad that I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone learning about multiple things in tandem as a practicum student at Ubersuggest by NP Digital!
I’m especially thankful to have such great mentors during my first week of onboarding. Sabrina and Ricky have gone above and beyond to create a very welcoming environment for me!
